THE DESIGN OF THE HERITAGE CENTER

The Monroe County Historical Association has engaged MKSD Architects from Allentown to provide a concept design for our proposed Heritage Center. The Heritage Center expansion will consist of approximately 7,000 square feet of space on three floors and a basement, immediately adjacent and connected to the Stroud Mansion. The exterior renderings below show the proposed architectural design of the Heritage Center. The new construction is a harmonious addition set back and connected to the rear of the Georgian-style Stroud Mansion.

In keeping with the US Department of the Interior’s Preservation Brief 14, the PA State Historic Preservation Office, and the Stroudsburg Historical Preservation Ordinance, the Heritage Center addition uses the same materials and a simplified design that references the historic building, but does not copy to create a fake “old” appearance.

Observe in these renderings how the patterns and features of the Stroud Mansion and the Heritage Center correspond to each other, including the alignment, both horizontally and vertically, of the Stroud Mansion’s floor elevations, cornice line, and window openings.

The above interior drawing highlights the increased space for community gatherings and educational programs the addition will provide. The proposed Heritage Center Community Room will seat 125 guests.
